Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains is a rural community in New Jersey, United States and Union country. According to recently held census, the population of this township was 22,732.

The inhabitant people residing in this region were the Raritan’s. They lived in a huge wig-warm village surrounded by gold area of Ash brook. This land was primarily claimed in the year 1609 by Dutch due to explorations of Henry Hudson.

Peter Sonmans and Dutchman primarily owned the Scotch Plains in anticipation of English conquest in 1664.

In the year 1684-85 this village was developed by Scotch migrants who got settled at Perth Amboy in George Scot’s leadership. So they were known as Scot’s Plains. Earlier Scot’s plain was a fraction of West fields which was also fraction of Elizabethtown.

In log cabins or wig-warms originally eight families lived in it. At this point of time people used to travel by horseback which was later on ornamented with tracks of wagon wheel. These paths later on became their main streets namely Front Street, Martine Avenue, Westfield Road, Park Avenue and Raritan Road. Slowly in Scotch Plains, farming developed and population started increasing.

With the passage of time, in the year 1800 a reading society was developed, local post office was opened in the year 1804 and also temperance society was created in the year 1831. Westfield was reached by Elizabethtown and Somerville Railroad offering to purchase a correct way in Scotch Plains.

Scotch Plains with the population of 22,000 maintains its image of small town. The township has moved forward in offering various activities and services for fulfilling the wants of its residents. They also provide ease of access to the main state highways.

The Scotch Plains wealthy culture comprises people from every walk of life. They include people from commercial executive to people of rich group who have not only provided attractive look to the town but have additionally provided ease of living. The township is considered to be the leader in offering different services to its inhabitants comprising active groups of senior citizens, who have been involved in the growth of bus service, activities for senior and housing facility.

Scotch Plains one country club, amusement park and two golf courses add to the diversity in the community. Needy and youth are provided assistance by several civic organizations. In the center of the township Business community is growing rapidly which offers unique and diverse specialty goods, including personal and professional business services.

Huge numbers of antique shops enriches the likeness of Scotch Plains. Slowly the businesses and retail community are being developed for expanding community’s family oriented culture.

Thus, the Scotch Plains shows the spirit of cooperation and unity through members of business and professional association.
