Manhattan
Manhattan is one of the finest and perhaps the oldest type of cocktail. It was the first cocktail ever that was made using the sweet vermouth. The vermouth is a fortified wine that is further flavored with aromatic herbs and spices. The best quality of Manhattan cocktail is made using the Rye whiskey.
The Manhattan is made using the sweet vermouth, rye whiskey, Angostura bitters, and the maraschino cherry and a twist orange peel for garnishing. The angostura bitters is made using a secret blend of rare tropical herbs and spices. ¾ oz of sweet vermouth is mixed with 2 ½ oz of rye whisky and 1 dash of angostura bitter along with 2-3 ice cubes in a mixing glass.
This mixture is slowly stirred to avoid the bruising of ice. The maraschino cherry (sugar coated cherry that is dyed red and flavored with almond) is placed in an empty glass over which the strained whiskey mixture is gently poured. The cocktail is served in a cocktail glass and is garnished using a twist orange peel over the rim of the glass. The recipe can have small variations like substituting the cherry and the orange by a twist of lime.
