Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky
The Johnnie Walker is the most distributed brand of scotch whiskey around the world. It is accounted that over 120 million bottles of the brand are sold in a single year. The brand was initially known as the Walker’s Kilmarnock whiskey. Later John ‘Johnnie’ Walker began selling whiskey from his grocery store in Ayshire, Scotland in 1820. This brand became very popular in a very short time span.
The business was later handled by his grandson Alexander Walker II and his son Alexander Walker. During this time the brand became more popular amongst all the other brands of whiskeys.
The iconic square bottle of the brand was first introduced in the year 1870, while in the year 1908 the whiskey was given a new name of ‘Johnnie Walker’ from its older brand ‘Walker’s Kilmarnock’. Slowly this business broadened and a number of other blends were created of special or limited bottles.
Whiskey is manufactured in a place known as the distillery which uses a process called the fractional distillation. The equipment used to make whiskey is generally called a still. Different types of grains are used in making different blends of whiskeys.
The first step in the processing of whiskey is to create the mash by cooking the grains like corn, rye, or barley in hot water. The starch in the mash is then converted into sugar using malt. The juice is fermented by adding yeast which converts the sugar into alcohol. This solution is then distilled to form a liquid that is 80% alcohol. This liquid is then diluted using water to reduce the alcohol level to 50% and then stored in the barrels and kept for several years for aging. This aging process adds the attractive color and flavor to the whiskey.
The standard blends of Johnnie Walker that are available all around the world include, The Johnnie Walker Red Label, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Johnnie Walker Swing, Johnnie Walker Green Label, Johnnie Walker Gold Label etc. The price of the Johnnie walker blends have changed variably from the least expensive to the most expensive whiskey.
The special or limited blends of the brand that have been made, include The Johnnie Walker Millennium Edition, Johnnie Walker Deco, Johnnie Walker Premier, Johnnie Walker Swing superior, Johnnie Walker Old Harmony etc. The original Johnnie Walker Red Label is a rich blend containing up to 35% of the best single malt and grains whiskies. Similarly, the Johnnie Walker Black Label, Winston Churchill’s whiskey is a rich, smooth blend of over 40 whiskies.
