Whisky is a type of spirit which is produced from a variety of fermented grains like the rye, barley, wheat, etc which is then aged in the oak barrels. It is believed that whiskey was first invented in Ireland about 1,000 years ago using the grains. This was later carried to Scotland by the monks. The first records of the Scottish whiskey are found to be as old as 1494. Slowly the art of making whiskey spread all around the world. During the early 18th century, whiskey making became an important industry in the American colonies. Today whiskey is popular throughout the world and is made everywhere, but the most famous and celebrated of all is the scotch whiskey.

Whiskey is made from water, yeast, and grains. The type of grains used varies with the kind of the whiskey being made. The scotch malt whiskey is made of only barley while there are other varieties which are made of oats, wheat, barley, rye and corn. Straight whiskey contains no extra ingredients while the blended whiskey contains other ingredients like caramel color and sherry.

The Jameson 1780 old Irish whiskey, Bushmills 10 year old single malt, Middleton very rare Irish whiskey, Bushmills 16 year old single malt, and the Red breast pure pot still are the five best scotch whiskeys that are available.
