The Brandy eggnog is a dairy based sweet beverage which is a popular drink in America. It is believed that the word eggnog was derived from an English word noggin which is a small drinking vessel with an upright handle.

It is an American drink which dates back to 1775 and was associated with travelling and other social celebrations. Today, the brandy eggnog cocktail is principally related with the celebration eves like the Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the New Year. The non alcoholic eggnog is commercially available in the markets during the Christmas time or during the winte

The liquors that are traditionally used in making the eggnog include rum and brandy. While sometimes as a variation, other types of liquors like whiskey, sherry, ale and cider can also be used. The best quality of the eggnog can be created when all the ingredients used are pre-chilled.

The ingredients used in making the brandy eggnog comprises of 4 cups milk, ½ cup brandy, ½ cup plus 2 tablespoons of sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon vanilla, 6 large eggs plus 2 yolks, ½ teaspoon grated nutmeg and ¼ cup whipped cream. The preparation of the brandy eggnog takes some time and has to be made carefully. Pour the eggs, egg yolks, sugar and salt in a pan and mix them in a fast motion until they mix well together. Add the milk slowly while whipping the mixture until it mixes well with all the other ingredients.

Heat the mixture in the pan on a gas with the lowest possible heat setting and continue to stir. Measure the temperature using a thermometer until it reaches 160 degree F. The mixture in the pan takes about 20- 30 minutes to slowly thicken. This mixture is slowly strained into a large bowl to remove the small cooked pieces of egg. Now the brandy or any other liquor is added to it and again stirred well for their proper blending.

This blend is now poured into a glass container and covered using a plastic wrap which is then kept in the refrigerator for a few hours. Before serving, pour some whipped cream into the cold mixture and garnish it with grated nutmeg. Serve this cocktail in chilled cups or cocktails glasses.

An alternate method can also be used to create the brandy eggnog more easily. This method comprises of 1¼ oz milk, 1 oz brandy, ½ oz sugar syrup and 1 egg yolk. Pour the ingredients with some ice cubes into the cocktail shaker. Shake the mixture properly and strain it into old fashioned glasses. Garnish the cocktail with finely grated nutmeg and then serve.
